BLAST DEFEAT WAVE IN OVERTIME 6-5

Baltimore, MD (December 11th, 2021) – The Blast returned to Towson SECU Arena for their second game of the season. In their exciting return, the Blast defeated the Wave in overtime, 6-5.

Milwaukee Wave start off their 2021-22 season with an early lead when Ian Bennett scored the opening goal of the game, but Lucas Roque would answer for the Blast with his third goal of the season, assisted by Max Ferdinand. Rogue quickly returned with his second goal of the night, assisted by Tony Donatelli, giving the blast a 2-1 lead. Before the end of the quarter, Jonatas Melo gave the Blast a 3-1 lead with his first goal of the season.

The Blast dominated possession in the second quarter with 6 shots on goal, but with both teams playing solid defense, ultimately both teams were unable to score before the end of the half. In the first 0:24 seconds of the second half, Ian Bennett would score the first goal of the third quarter with an assist from Luan Oliveira. Keeping his streak, Ian Bennett evened the score, 3-3, with his third goal of the night.

The Wave opened the fourth quarter with Gordy Gurson’s first goal of the season, assisted by Marcio Leite. Milwaukee Wave lead the Blast 3-4. With less than 0.4 seconds remaining on the powerplay, Jonatas Melo cut the Wave’s lead by 1 with an amazing pass from Max Ferdinand. The Wave received another penalty for having too many men on the field. Milwaukee killed the powerplay. The Blast would take advantage of a third powerplay in the fourth quarter, when Lucas Roque returned with his third goal of the night, assisted by Max Ferdinand. The Blast take the lead 5-4. With only 0.47 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Ian Bennett records his fourth goal of the night. Sending the Blast into overtime against the Wave, 5-5.

Starting off overtime, Juan Pereira went down with an injury keeping him on the sidelines for the remainder of the game. After an intense three minutes, Lucas Roque found the back of the goal, ultimately leading to the Baltimore Blast’s first victory of the season. The Wave did not walk away empty handed, as a tie in regular time gave them a point their standings. Meanwhile, the Blast takeaway two points for the victory in overtime.

The Blast were led by Lucas Roque with 4 goals, Jonatas Melo with 2 goals and Max Ferdinand with 3 assists. Goalkeeper, William Vanzela, recorded 13 saves.
