BLAST DEFEAT METROSTARS 14-6

Baltimore, MD (January 20, 2019) – In the third matchup of the season between the Baltimore Blast and the Mississauga Metrostars, the Blast defeated the Metrostars 14-6. The Blast had a number of new faces contribute to the Blast victory, showcasing their impressive depth as a number of key starters missed this game.

The Metrostars quickly grabbed the lead from a set piece routine that led to a curling shot from midfielder Marco Rodriguez to make it 1-0. Rodriguez added his second goal of the game through Damion Graham’s fifth assist of the season. The Blast struck back with Mike Deasel’s second goal of the season to chip into the Metrostars’ lead. A Mike Deasel shot was deflected off the goalkeeper and fell to the head of Jonatas Melo, who equalized for the Blast with 4:20 remaining in the quarter. Several great saves from both goalkeepers kept the game even at the end of the first quarter.

The Blast would score the next five goals in the second quarter. Tony Donatelli scored his first goal of the game off of Tiyi Shipalane’s first career assist. Mohamed Ndiaye would tally his first ever goal for the Blast from an assist from Blast goalkeeper Joey Kapinos to extend the Blast’s lead to 4-2 midway through the second quarter. Dani Oliveira would score his first career goal as he weaved through several Metrostar defenders to make it 5-2. Vini Dantas would add a pair of goals in the last five minutes of the second quarter to take the Blast into halftime with a 7-2 lead.

The Blast would continue the scoring right where they left off as Vini Dantas completed his second straight hat-trick of the weekend to make it 8-2 Blast. Goals from Jon Orlando and Dani Oliveira kept the pressure on the Metrostars as the Blast made it 10-2. Jonatas Melo would add an incredible bicycle kick goal to extend the Blast lead 11-2. The Metrostars would get a goal back after a Marco Rodriguez shot was redirected into the path of Halburto Harris to make it 11-3 Blast. Sam Guernsey added his second goal of the season to put the Blast ahead 12-3. Blast goalkeeper Joey Kapinos made several great saves towards the end of the third quarter to put the Blast up 12-3 at the third quarter break.

In the fourth quarter, the Blast controlled the rest of the game with goals from Jereme Raley and Jamie Thomas. The Metrostars added three goals in the fourth and employed an extra attacker for the last six minutes of the game. The Blast closed out the remainder of the game to win their fourth consecutive game 14-6.
