AMBUSH GET LATE GOAL TO SLIP PAST SAN DIEGO 4-3

St. Charles, Missouri (February 26, 2021) – The St. Louis Ambush defeated the San Diego Sockers 4-3 Friday night at Axius Field at the Family Arena in thrilling fashion, scoring the game-winning goal with 37 seconds left in the game. The win improved the Ambush to 5-6 on the season, while the Sockers dropped to 3-3.

Following a scoreless opening frame, the Sockers got on the board first when Cesar Cerda scored in the fifth minute. The Ambush answered 28 seconds later when Vadim Cojocov found the back of the net. Nearly a minute further into the period, Lucas Almeida gave St. Louis a 2-1 lead that would hold until halftime.

The visitors would knot the score in the fourth minute of the third quarter when Ambush goalkeeper Paulo was screened by an Ambush defender, enabling Taylor Bond to get off a shot that Paulo couldn’t see coming until it was out of reach. St. Louis regained the lead (3-2) in the ninth minute of the third period on a restart when Lucas Almeida sent a soft pass to Vadim Cojocov, who nailed his second goal of the contest.

Nearly four minutes into the final period, San Diego drew even (3-3) once again when Brandon Escoto beat Paulo with a shot that ricocheted off the post. The game-winner came when Patrick Thompson, playing in his first Ambush game after being acquired from Harrisburg, put a shot out of reach of Sockers goalkeeper William Vanzela with 37 seconds to go in the match.
