SOLES DE SONORA WIN GAME ONE

BALTIMORE, MD (April 7, 2017) – The Ron Newman Cup Championship Series began with Game One at Royal Farms arena as the Soles de Sonora and the Baltimore Blast faced off in a rematch of last year’s epic title series. In front of 6,701 fans both teams put together a display of arena soccer that was worthy of the final series. Ultimately the regular season’s best offense defeated the best defense as Sonora won 4-2.

Enrique Canez opened the scoring for los Soles early in the game, putting Sonora ahead 1-0 in the 1st quarter. They would continue to control possession for much of the first half as Baltimore’s patient defense settled in for the offensive onslaught.

Baltimore went into the second half with a man advantage as Sonora got called for a penalty just before the half ended. Andrew Hoxie only needed 31 seconds to tie the game for Baltimore and try to change the momentum of the first half. However, three straight goals in the third quarter for Sonora seemingly put the game out of reach.

The Blast were able to get within two late in the fourth quarter, but even with the sixth attacker they could not overcome the deficit as Soles de Sonora gets the victory.

The series now shifts to Hermosillo, Mexico on Sunday, April 9th at 9:00 p.m. ET. The game can be seen live in English and Spanish on MASLtv, the streaming home of the Major Arena Soccer League.
