RGV Barracudas Hire Martinez as new Head Coach

HIDALGO, Texas ---- The Rio Grande Valley Barracudas have hired  Mexican national Genoni Martinez as their next Head Coach. Martinez is  not a stranger to the MASL as he was a former player coach with the  Monterrey Flash leading them to championship back in the 2015-2016  season defeating the Baltimore Blast.

Martinez has had  well-travelled career in both the outdoor and indoor realms of soccer.  In 1991 he became a member of Mexico’s U-17 team that participated in  the World Cup in Italy making his debut against Australia losing 4-3.

In 2006, Martinez became a member of the Mexico beach soccer team that took 4th place in the CONCACAF Tournament in Costa Rica.

Martinez  as an indoor soccer player has achieved many accolades such as defender  of the year in the MISL for 2009-2010 season, as a member of La Raza de  Monterrey. He has lead 5 different team to indoor soccer championship  games. Genoni began his indoor career with the Wichita Wings during the  1996-97 season had stints in Philadelphia, Detroit, Monterrey,  Harrisburg, Cleveland and St. Louis before returning to Monterrey for  the 2007-08 season. In 15 seasons, he has played closed to 400 games and  recorded closed to 900 points in his indoor soccer career.

Oscar  Ruvalcaba Jr. the team General Manager stated “We wanted to make a  splash hire and we did with Martinez. I feel that with Martinez’s  experience will be a big plus and hope that it will lead to a major  turnaround from last season. I would also like to thank Jorge Quiroz for  his professionalism to the Barracudas organization. ”

A press conference will be announced at a later date to formally introduce Genoni Martinez to the public.
