Chihuahua Savage, bicampeón de la MASL

EL equipo mexicano barrió 2-0 a unos aguerridos Comets de Kansas City y se coronó en la Arena Corner Sport

El estado más grande de México también tiene al equipo más poderoso de la Major Arena Soccer League: Chihuahua Savage.

Los "Salvajes" vencieron 5-4 a los Kansas City Comets y lograron el bicampeonato de la MASL, ante el júbilo de una abarrotada Arena Corner Sport, que apoyó en todo momento a su equipo, incluso a ritmo de mariachi en vivo.

Con el marcador 4-4 y solamente 1:20 segundos en el reloj, Hugo Puentes tomó la pelota por el lado izquierdo del área y de media vuelta definió por arriba a la salida del arquero Neto, para conseguir la anotación de la diferencia.

"Esto que estoy viviendo es lo que sueñas de niño, se campeón en un equipo profesional, estoy muy agradecido con Dios porque me permite ser bicampeón", expresó Puentes, quien sumó dos puntos en el partido y fue elegido además el Jugador Más Valioso de la Final, "el MVP es de todos mis compañeros, no solamente es mio, a mí se me dio anotar el gol del gane, pero esto es un trabajo en equipo".

Los Comets fueron un dignísimo finalista y aunque perdieron en casa el juego uno, también por la mínima diferencia, llegaron a Chihuahua con un aparente traje de víctimas y durante el desarrollo del juego se los fueron arrancando.

De hecho, llegaron a tener una ventaja de 3-1 en el tercer cuarto e iniciaron el último período empatados 4-4. El duelo resultó intenso y emocionante de principio a fin.

"Es una final, y ellos con esa cultura que tienen nunca van a dar nada por perdido. Yo les dije a mis jugadores que no iba a ser fácil, dos o tres quizás que pensaron que sí,  y ya vieron que no. No fue nada fácil esta temporada, pero ganamos la copa, imagínate cómo me siento. Estoy muy contento con mis jugadores, trabajaron mucho y se lo merecen", expresó el entrenador Genoni Martínez, quién tomó el equipo con el torneo en marcha y lo llevó hasta la coronación.

 El Savage de esta manera consiguió elsegundo título para la franquicia "espalda con espalda", luego de que la temporada anterior, la 22-23, derrotó al Baltimore Blast también en dos partidos.

"La clave ha sido la garra (del equipo), porque hemos estado abajo en el marcador y no nos hemos dado por vencidos, "Geno" (el entrenador)  siempre nos dice que no podemos hacerlo ningun minuto del partido, y eso fue lo que pasó", expresó Kristian Kintana, defensor que se unió al Savage en el cierre del torneo y de estar en los últimos puestos con Dallas, terminó campeón en Chihuahua.

 El comisionado de la MASL Keith Tozer premió uno a uno a los jugadores de ambos equipos en la cancha de la Corner Sport, donde se colocó una elegante alfombra roja para la ceremonia.

Bryan "Flaco" Macías y Roberto Escalante tomaron la Ron Neuman Cup y flanqueados por el resto de sus compañeros y miembros de la organización cargaron el trofeo en medio de una lluvia de confetti y con un arco con la palabra campeones como marco.

El ahora tiene una marca de 11-1-0 jugando en playoffs en la Corner Sport, y ningún equipo estadounidense les ha podido ganar en esta etapa como locales.

Genoni  ahora ha sido campeón como entrenador por segunda ocasión en su carrera y con dos equipos mexicanos diferentes, ya que también había logrado el título en la temporada 14-15 con Monterrey. Es considerado el mejor jugador mexicano en la historia del indoor soccer y ya es también el estratega nacional más exitoso.

Chihuahua, con su bicampeonato, se coloca en el segundo peldaño de los máximos ganadores en la historia de la MASL, que data de la temporada 2014-2015, empatados con San Diego Sockers y a sólo un campeonato de igualar al máximo monarca, Baltimore.

El partido fue transmitido a todo el mundo via las importantes cadenas internacionales de streaming, CBS Sports Golazo, con narración en inglés, y vía Canela Deportes con los comentarios en Español.

Chihuahua Savage, two-time MASL champion

The Mexican team swept the brave Kansas City Comets 2-0 and was crowned at the Corner Sport Arena

Mexico's largest state also has the most powerful team in the Major Arena Soccer League: Chihuahua Savage.

The "Salvajes" beat the Kansas City Comets 5-4 and won the MASL two-time championship, to the joy of a packed Corner Sport Arena, which supported its team at all times, even to the rhythm of live mariachi.

With the score at 4-4 and only 1:20 seconds left, Hugo Puentes took the ball on the left side of the area and in a half-turn he scored from goalkeeper Neto, to score the difference.

"What I am experiencing is what you dream of as a child, being a champion in a professional team, I am very grateful to God because he allows me to be a two-time champion," said Puentes, who added two points in the game and was also elected the Most Valuable Player of the Final, "the MVP belongs to all my teammates, it's not just mine, I was given the chance to score the winning goal, but this is a team effort."

The Comets were a worthy finalist and although they lost game one at home, also by the slightest difference, they arrived in Chihuahua with an apparent suit of victims and during the development of the game they were torn from them.

In fact, they took a 3-1 lead in the third quarter and entered the final period tied 4-4. The duel was intense and exciting from start to finish.

"It's a final, and with that culture they have they will never give up anything for lost. I told my players that it wasn't going to be easy, maybe two or three thought it would, and they already saw that it wouldn't. It wasn't nothing easy this season, but we won the cup, imagine how I feel. I am very happy with my players, they worked hard and they deserve it," said coach Genoni Martínez, who took the team with the tournament underway and took it to the final crowning.

 The Savage in this way achieved the second title for the franchise "back to back", after the previous season, 22-23, also defeated the Baltimore Blast in two games.

"The key has been the determination (of the team), because we have been down on the scoreboard and we have not given up, "Geno" (the coach) always tells us that we cannot do it any minute of the game, and that was the what happened," said Kristian Quintana, a defender who joined Savage at the end of the tournament and from being in the last places with Dallas, ended up champion in Chihuahua.

 MASL commissioner Keith Tozer awarded players from both teams one by one on the Corner Sport field, where an elegant red carpet was laid out for the ceremony.

They now have an 11-1-0 record playing in the Corner Sport playoffs, and no American team has been able to beat them at home at this stage.

Genoni has now been champion as a coach for the second time in his career and with two different Mexican teams, since he had also won the title in the 14-15 season with Monterrey. He is considered the best Mexican player in the history of indoor soccer and now he is also the most successful mexican strategist.

Chihuahua, with its two-time championship, is placed in the second place of the top winners in the history of the MASL, which dates back to the 2014-2015 season, tied with the San Diego Sockers and just one championship away from equaling the top champion, Baltimore.

The match was broadcast around the world via the important international streaming networks, CBS Sports Golazo, with narration in English, and via Canela Deportes with commentary in Spanish.
